While our Disaster Aid Response Team members (DARTs) are being assembled and briefed, we are already looking to move pre-positioned stock from India and elsewhere, ready to be deployed when assessments and logistics have been completed, in conjunction with other agencies and local Rotarians. Our 2014 deployment to Nepal brought significant relief after the autumn floods.
As we know from heartbreaking media reports, access is extremely difficult and indications are that as well as non-perishable food items, safe water and shelter are the vital aid items. And it is those latter two where we can provide effective assistance, just as we recently did in Vanuatu* and before that, in the Philippines (where, in both countries, our work goes on.)
